I have known since I was a young girl that I am one of the lucky ones. It is interesting how many people from different cultures complain if just the smallest of things go wrong. Life is about appreciating what you have and helping others. This photo is amazing…what a beautiful young girl.

Nepali Sherpa girl collecting yak dung in Khumbu Valley

The story behind "Nepali Sherpa girl collecting yak dung in Khumbu Valley"

While we just turn a switch to get our house heated or our food cooked, the Sherpa people of the Khumbu Valley have to do it differently.

As there is little electricity (some solar panels) and gas and there are hardly any trees at this altitude, the main fuel is yak dung. In the cold early morning this girl went out with her basket to search the trails of the mountains near Dingboche, Nepal. The yak excrement dries and freezes, so she can collect it and take it back home, where it is used as fuel for the stove.
