    Are there plans for the Tibet / Nepal highlands to be opened up more to tourists? What an awful prospect! More globalisation, more ancient cultures compromised by rampant capitalism!

The story behind "Buddha image in mani stones pile"

In many different places in Tibet and Nepal you can find huge piles of stones, called Mani stones. At first sight they look like a random mess of deserted bricks and rocks, but on closer inspection you might discover all kinds of writing and carved figures like this Buddha and many Buddhist prayers.

I am afraid that when the tourists really discover Tibet and the Nepal highlands, these piles of art might be history as the carvings are priceless, but let’s hope for common sense and respect…
